Protective Shield is a reaction, but it doesn't say what the trigger is. Marasmusine (talk) 01:43, 8 April 2015 (MDT)
CR calculation:
- Hit points: 165 hp * 1.5 (damage immunities) = 247 hp (CR 12)
- AC: 16 + 2 (magic resistance) +2 (protective shield, assuming it happens every other round) = 20 (+1 CR)
- Defensive CR = 13
- Damage per round = 38 (melee) or 27 (ranged) or 30/3 (magical burst) = CR 5
- Hit bonus: +11 (+2 CR)
- Offensive CR = 7
- Final CR = 10
If you want this to be a CR, I suggest increasing its Hit Dice or damage.
I do like this creature and hope to include it in the magazine. Marasmusine (talk) 02:06, 8 April 2015 (MDT)
How do you calculate the CR? because I have no idea how, but you can change it is you see fit. Azernath (talk) 08:32, 8 April 2015 (MDT)
You got to tell me how? i read the book but did not understand it. PLEASE HELP ME. Azernath (talk) 23:02, 16 April 2015 (MDT)
- I went straight to step 4 since you already assigned the stats you want.
- Defensive Challenge Rating (DCR): 168 HP. In step 9 the 'effective hit points' is multiplied by 1.5 because it has immunity to several damage types, and we are expecting the creature to be between CR 11 to 16. So we use 252 hp when working out DCR.
- On the 'Monster Statistics by Challenge Rating' table, 252 hp gives us a DCR of 13. The same row on the table gives us an 'expected AC' of 18
- Our AC is 16. The golem has magic resistance, which increases the effective AC by 2 (see Monster Features p. 281). In my previous calculation, I gave a bonus for Arcane Shield, but I won't do that this time because I nerfed it since then: it only gets the effects against one attack, and has to recharge it.
- Effective AC is 18. This is our expected AC, so no adjustments to DCR are needed.
- Offensive Challenge Rating (OCR): We work out the average damage dealt by the golem each round. Step 11 goes into this in more detail. The golem can make two slams for an average of 38 damage. It can make two magic missile attacks (a total of 10 darts, total damage 35). It can make a magical burst, let's assume it hits two creatures (66 damage) - but it has to recharge. We take the average damage over 3 turns, which will probably be 1) open with magic missile, 2) magical burst, 3) slams. So the average is (66 + 35 + 38) / 3 = 46 damage.
- Going back to the table, this gives us an OCR of 7. The same line in the tables gives us an expected attack bonus of +6 and save DC of 15.
- The attack bonus you want to use is +11, so there's 5 points difference. So we adjust the OCR up by 2 steps. Our OCR is 9.
- Our final CR is the average of DCR and OCR = (13 + 9) / 2 = CR 11
- What if you want to give the creature a saving throws? Azernath (talk) 19:41, 17 April 2015 (MDT)
- See step 15 (page 279) Marasmusine (talk) 01:48, 18 April 2015 (MDT)
- No I am talking about the template, it does not have saving throws. Azernath (talk) 09:20, 18 April 2015 (MDT)
- You use that column if the creature's primary attacks are saving-throw based (like a breath weapon or something) instead of referring to attack bonus.

I'm changing magical absoprtion a bit, its a bit too powerful. Marasmusine (talk) 02:36, 24 April 2015 (MDT)

Please feel free to re-nominate it once it meets the FA criteria and when all the major issues brought up in this nomination have been dealt with.
This monster is interesting and I feel that it would make a nice featured article. --Green Dragon (talk) 13:22, 26 May 2017 (UTC)

- Oppose: While nothing is wrong with the creature, they need more lore and fluff to qualify for featured article in my opinion (Varkarrus (talk) 16:35, 15 February 2018 (MST))
- Oppose I agree that this creature, actually, will not make a decent FA. Like above, there is not too much that makes this remarkable. --Green Dragon (talk) 08:25, 5 March 2018 (MST)
